Huawei Ascend P7 – Excellence With Edge

Huawei’s new Ascend P7 picks up where last year’s P6 left off adding in a raft of new hardware, updated spec, a design overhaul and some new, selfie-focused imaging technology. But unlike the Ascend P6, the P7 comes fully loaded with CAT 4 LTE tech and is now ready to tap into the UK’s burgeoning 4G market.

The Ascend P7 will compete with current high fliers from HTC, Samsung, Sony and LG. Inside you’ll find a HiSilicon quad-core 1.8GHz processor with Mali450 graphics alongside 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which should provide more than enough processing power. The inclusion of microSD support is also a welcome addition too.

Exact dimensions for the Ascend P7 are 139.8mm x 68.8mm x 6.5mm, so, slightly thicker than its predecessor, with an overall weight of 124g. It all feels very well put together in the hand, reminding us of a cross between the iPhone 5s and the Sony Xperia Z2 – and not in a bad way either!

With the display you’re looking at a 5-inch Full HD setup, coated in Gorilla Glass 3, with pixel density of 445ppi and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Imaging wise, the Ascend P7 sounds rather impressive: on the back you have a 13MP setup, complete with a Sony 4th generation BSI sensor; on the front there’s an 8MP lens for snapping selfies or group-selfies, which Huawei calls….“groufies”.

We know – WORST WORD EVER!

The P7 runs Android KitKat skinned with Huawei’s Emotion UX, and a 2,500mAh battery powers everything along. You’ve also got all the usual connectivity options with NFC, Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE.

Exact dimensions for the Ascend P7 are 139.8mm x 68.8mm x 6.5mm, so, slightly thicker than its predecessor, with an overall weight of 124g. The Ascend P7 is available in the following colours: black, white and pink.

The recommended retail price of Huawei Ascend P7 is €449 and it will be available in China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Serbia, Greece, Norway, Hungary, Denmark, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates from May.

World’s biggest telecom vendor

Huawei on Tuesday reported revenues of 102.7 million renminbi, or U.S. $16.1 billion, for the first six months of 2012. That would seem like a perfectly ordinary quarter for the giant and growing Chinese telecom vendor, but there is something particularly significant of about this earnings report. According to some quick calculations made by Light Reading’s Ray Le Maistre, Huawei’s sales have surpassed Ericsson’s, making the privately held company the largest telco infrastructure maker in the world.
